Welcome to the first EVER eNewsletter of 2008!
2008 promises to be an exciting year, with plans for our second meeting in Portoroz, Slovenia all ready well underway and a great programme shaping up. We hope to be able to welcome more of you than ever to the annual meeting- so get your abstract submissions in early and visit the web site to look at travel and accommodation arrangements for the EVER Congress.

The EVER 2008 Preliminary Programme is now available.

The Abstract submission deadline for EVER 2008 is June 1. Only members having paid their 2008 membership fee can submit free paper abstracts.To add or modify an abstract, go to the members section and follow the instructions.

Rimvydas Stanislovas ASOKLIS (Vilnius, Lithuania) has been elected as new East European representative in the EVER Board [2007 - 2012].

This year members have to vote for new Leaders of Scientific Sections.
Votings are open to all EVER voting members who have paid their membership fee for 2008.
After login, follow the Elections instructions.
The result of the EVER 2008 Elections will be announced at the EVER General Assembly.

EVER is present at ARVO from April 27-May 1, 2008 on Booth 92 in the exhibition and has a workshop Considering conducting research in Europe? Practical hints and useful background information organized by Charles RIVA.

The tour has been CANCELLED !

"A unique visit to Sweden from 24th May to 1st June 2008 will be led by Christopher Liu and Per Söderberg, an ophthalmology professor in Stockholm. This follows successful study tours to China, Egypt and Syria in recent years. There will be professional visits to three out of Malmö, Gothenburg, Uppsala and Stockholm. The visit coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Swedish Ophthalmological Society and we have been invited to their dinner on 31st May. Dubbed "Sweden from Bottom to Top", we will also see major tourist attractions as well as hidden treasures including skiing in the midnight sun (down hill skiing, snow scooter safari, dog sledge tours) and a sauna afterwards at Riksgränsen at the northern tip of Sweden. There will also be opera at the Drottningholm Palace, a boat trip to the 8th century Birka Viking city, the Kullen nature reserve, various gardens, palaces and museums (including painter Carl Larrson's cottage and sculptor Carl Milles's previous home). We shall not be visiting IKEA, but we will look at Swedish homeware design at the Höganäs factory outlet!!
